Meet Your Administration
Nick Sweeney, Superintendent
Nick Sweeney is the Superintendent of Gateway Christian Schools in Kitsap County, Washington. He has served as a teacher and administrator in private Christian Schools for 37 years. A native of Seattle, he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from George Fox University, and a Master of Educational Administration Degree from Seattle University.
During his career, he has implemented groundbreaking programs in his schools. He established one of the first special education programs in a private school while in Southern California. Additionally, he has integrated student service opportunities into the extracurricular programs of his schools. These programs have included overseas service trips to countries like Ukraine, Guatemala, Honduras and Puerto Rico. As well, his schools have supported many service projects closer to home.
Mr. Sweeney’s development of international student programs in has significantly enhanced the school’s climate. With these programs, he has been able to expand the scope of education to help local students consider people in other parts of the country and world and what they can learn from those cultures. He believes it is an effective way to build multicultural understanding into the overall education of his students. It also affords the international students a chance to learn about Jesus Christ in an academic environment.
Three years ago, under Mr. Sweeney’s leadership, the school’s academic program incorporated an exciting new component: Arrowsmith Cognitive Development Program. Arrowsmith gives students with cognitive development issues a chance to develop skills and succeed in the regular school program.
